Positioning a Point

Exercise 15

The purpose of this exercise was to place a single point in the frame.

After i had taken all the pictures i found that if taking a picture of a single point i tend to place them all in the right hand side of the frame.

This i found out to be a bit of a strange habit but now gives me something to improve on.

Assignment 1 Feedback

I received my feedback for assignment 1 and it will certainly give me a lot to work on before the next assignment,This is what i need and wanted to hopefully help me improve.
There is a few of the images that i am going to change and also a few that i will re jig in the post processing but all in all i think i have a good idea as in how to proceed into assignment two.

Its been a bit of as struggle to get outside with work and with the weather being so poor, so i will have to get cracking with the next lot of exercises i think that some might have to be done inside, this might even help my (None existent) creative side.

Cropping

Exercise 14

For this exercise we had to take 3 pictures and then crop them.

Original

I cropped the image above because i liked the boats in the picture but the one that is not fully in the frame and also the pole beside it are distracting and sort of seem to clutter the frame so i thought by removing them the focus is back on the other three boats as well as the horizon.

Original

I liked this little sculpture but when i took the picture i did not think about cutting out the back ground and just zooming in on part of the sculpture its self. It also helps to get rid of the cars and city things happening in the background.

Original

This is a ruined cottage i used to drive past on my way to work, i often thought about stopping so when the sun was out i thought i would take a trip to visit.

I cropped this picture because of all the rubbish in the foreground that i did not really pay much attention too when i was there. I think this also helps to put more focus on the sky and cottage as they might even balance?

Vertical and Horizontal frames

Exercise 13

For this exercise each picture had to be taken horizontal and vertical. When doing this i did start to look for tall things and also found it very strange to take pictures vertical as i guess i was so used to taken all the images vertical. I did managed to get a few different images and now have the hang of taking pictures both ways i think.

For the images above to get the full affect of the sky it had to be taken with a quick exposure but this in turn left the foreground very dark.

Positioning the Horizon

Exercise 12

For this exercise the horizon had to be placed at different positions in the frame.

I think that the last two images work the best as there is no clutter in the fore ground.
I can also see that if foreground was interesting having the horizon placed in the top of the frame would also work. If the foreground and sky where as equally interesting then having the horizon placed in the centre would be the best solution.

Balance

Exercise 11
The purpose of this one was to work out the balance in each of the pictures.

I think i have managed to grasp the idea of balance in a picture. It was a bit more tricky than i first thought and hope i have done right.
